Finishing

Trained craftsmen certified in today’s high-tech world of stains and finishes inspect and then disassemble their handcrafted furniture before they apply their premier finish. We take hand crafted unfinished product and apply “today’s” protective finish for the ultimate durability. After the many steps of finishing are done, craftsmen carefully re-assemble your quality furniture. Since we specialize in finishing, that gives us the ability to invest our time and effort in the details which provides a superior finish. Every inch of product is finished to obtain superior durability over time. Many of our customers commented they've never seen such a remarkable finish!

Finish Shop

Our history began over a decade ago as a finishing shop which specialized in finishing locally made hardwood furniture. Our reputation as a premier finishing shop in Lancaster County led to local craftsmen asking us to finish their locally made products.

Paint Options

Painted furniture can add warmth and simplicity to your new handcrafted furniture. Choose from over a thousand paint color options or simply custom match your favorite color. Or choose Crackle, which is a process where the finish looks like cracked and aged paint. The painted finish can be combined with glazed and distressed finish options.

Antiquating

Choose from a variety of antiquating techniques or a combination of several antiquating techniques. At Classic Furniture our goal is to produce the look our customers want. This could mean doing rub-through with distressing and worm-holes. Add glazing to help achieve the ultimate look of antique furniture. We will help guide you through the process of custom finishing to where the results are what you desire.

Distressing

Distressing is adding the effects of years of wear and tear in furniture. Antique furniture usually has dents, dings and worn edges which has a unique beauty. Our finish shop uses different techniques of distressing to our locally made furniture. By adding these features to new furniture you can recreate the illusion of age.

Combination

Choose a combination of antiquating techniques! At Classic Furniture our goal is to produce the look our customers want. This could mean doing rub-through with distressing and worm-holes or adding glazing to help achieve the ultimate look of antique furniture. This pictured knob is a combination of rub through, distressing and worm holes.

Worm Holes

Very old furniture sometimes has worm holes. To achieve the effect of worm holes a nail is heated and then hammered into the wood. This causes a tiny darkened hole that mimics the pattern made by worms. This is usually done around knot holes in wood to look more natural. Our finish shop is careful to not make the worm holes look too obvious by making holes in strategic spots in the furniture.

Rub Through

This common finish option is a look that suggests the finish has been rubbed off corners and edges through many decades of wear. Rub-through is achieved by aggressively sanding the finish off selected areas. This option can be done with the customers request to do light, normal or heavy rub-through on their particular piece of custom furniture.

Glazing

This special process will enhance the character of old world charm with today’s modern technology. Our hand rubbed glaze will bring out the natural texture of the wood, along with carvings and crevices, which hold the darker colored glaze while polishing off the higher pints. Glazing will add character but will not detract from the durability of our Premium Classic finish.

Hand Planing

Years ago craftsman would create beautiful furniture completely by hand. They would plane the top of the surface of wood as true as possible with the special tools of their day. Now we can recreate that look with our Hand-Planed option on every table including end tables and cocktail tables. We can even do locally made bedroom furniture pcs. with the Hand-Planed option (tops and fronts of drawers). This rich hand-crafted feel can not be reproduced by any machine process but by skilled craftsman only.
